Alternative Sentencing Program & Educational Network

Alternative Sentencing Programs & Educational Networks of New Mexico, Inc. (A.S.P.E.N.) was started in 2001 by retired New Mexico State Police Officers K.C. Rogers and Kevin M. Boyd. Both of these individuals have spent the majority of their lives in law enforcement, primarily in the fields of Criminal & Narcotics Investigations. They wished to continue to serve the State of New Mexico and the good people of the state through conducting educational programs and consulting in matters concerning drug abuse and criminal activity. It is A.S.P.E.N. of NM’s belief that education and understanding can make a difference in our communities.

A.S.P.E.N. of NM develops alternative sentencing programs that fit the needs of the courts, the offender and the community. A.S.P.E.N. of NM also develops community education programs, training programs for law enforcement and civilian security forces as well. A.S.P.E.N. of NM utilizes experienced law enforcement professionals as instructors and insures that only the most current information is given in all of our programs.

The "Second Chance-Life Values Program" is our most widely used alternative sentencing program. It is designed to educate the defendant on the impact of their crime and the negative effects on themselves, their families and their community; assist the courts by reducing the case load of the courts to allow more time for processing hardened criminals; and, decrease the community's financial burden for incarcerations for minor offenses by sentencing the offenders to the program instead of jail, and making the offender financially responsible for payment of the class.

“Knowledge Is Power” is one of our community-oriented programs. It gives members of that community firsthand information concerning the kinds of criminal and drug related activity that takes place in their area. This program focuses on information everyone in the community needs to know and is very helpful in dealing with children and young adults who may be suffering from substance abuse. Every parent should attend this program. Knowledge is your only weapon in the battle for your loved one’s life.
